Explore one of the best preserved examples of First World War trench systems in the country – WW1 practice trenches dug in Wytham Woods over a century ago. During the war Wytham Woods became a training ground for young men preparing for military service. Local soldiers and Oxford University cadets trained here, practicing the skills they would need and leaving behind traces of a remarkable chapter in the area’s history.
Join us on this poignant guided tour – with many thanks to the University of Oxford Wytham Woods.
Please note that the walk from Hill End will take 20/25 minutes, and is up hill at times. Sturdy footwear is recommended.
